Club History

Kennington Football Club founded 1888

Club History

The formation of Kennington Football Club dates back to before 1890, The Kent County Football Association records show our existence in 1888, however The Football Association put our birth in 1885. What is not in dispute is that Kennington Football Club is the oldest Junior Club in Kent.

Throughout most of the last century The Club played in the local Ashford & District League, where the opposition was mainly drawn from village sides. A large number of military teams also played in the leagues as did sides drawn with strong local railway connections. The advent of the company sponsored teams began to emerge around the seventies.

Club History

Kennington Football Club took the major decision to step up the football pyramid into the prestigious Kent County League in the 1980's. With this major decision came far stronger opponents, better playing surfaces and facilities, and in turn a higher standard of officialdom both on and off the pitch. The Club fields two teams each Saturday in the County League, with the first eleven in Division One and the second team in the reserve section. The club felt the need to form a third team with the specific idea to aid the transition from Junior and Schools football. The format has proved to be a success with the younger players able to get used to physically stronger opponents gradually over a longer period. This side plays weekly in the lower divisions of the Canterbury & District League.

The Sunday section of the club boasts two sides playing in the well organized Ashford and District Sunday League. The Club first eleven plays in the Premier division and reserves in Division Three.

Kennington Football Club has strong ties with the junior section where many former players manage and coach youngsters whose ages range between six and sixteen.
