Kennington made a memorable debut in the FA Vase, dispatching of previous competition runners-up, Epsom & Ewell.

Two Gary Clarke goals - making it five in three for the midfielder - alongside a Craig Calvert rocket and Gary Lockyer strike, eased Ton into the second qualifying round - their path being made somewhat easier when Epsom central defender, Chaz-Lee Martin saw red for a second caution early in the second half.

Ton traveled without the services of Tommy Penfold - Sam Brown slotting in to centre-half alongside Adam Phillips, with Gary Clarke and Craig Calvert the central-midfield pairing.

Dan Scorer's side went into the ascendancy from the off, with Charlie Owen unlucky to see his neat lob over the Epsom 'keeper rebound off the bar.

However, the travelling support didn't have long to wait for a goal, with Gary CLARKE giving the visitors the perfect start, powerfully heading home Tom Scorer's in-swinging cross from the right to beat Epsom goalkeeper Felix Davies.

Epsom had chances of their own with Sam Brown heading off the line, while Chaz-Lee Martin climbed well for Epsom from a corner, but the resulting header went wide of goal.

Ton hit the Epsom woodwork for a second time on 33 minutes, via a Tom Scorer curling shot from the edge of the box, with Tad Greenfield unlucky to just miss out on the returned ball back in.

Epsom missed a great chance to level seven minutes before half-time, when a Tom Barnes punched clearance was put straight back to into the Ton penalty area, with the resulting shot going wide of goal.

However they did get their reward two minutes before half-time, Adam HEAGNEY's downward shot beating Barnes as Ton failed to clear from a corner.

The second half proved a more open affair once Martin had received his second yellow for a handball off Sam Conlon's trickery, barely three minutes after the re-start. It was Martin's second sending off in the space of a week, having also received his marching orders in Epsom's last league outing against Tooting Bec on Tuesday evening.

A trio of headers from Clarke, Owen and then Scorer saw the ball headed off the line, before Kennington did find the net for their second - a Craig Calvert corner being turned in at the near post by CLARKE.

Both Sam Conlon and Charlie Owen had virtually identical efforts that dipped just over the Epsom bar as Ton continued to pose threat to the Combined Counties side - before two goals ensured their path into the next qualifying round.

From turning provider, Craig CALVERT this time got his name on the score sheet with fifteen minutes remaining - and in some style - rifling a shot from distance into the corner beyond the outstretched dive of Davies.

Gary LOCKYER was then the beneficiary from Sam Conlon's perfectly weighted cross from the right, to guide home a fourth on 78 minutes.

Our opponents in the second round qualifying are yet to be determined, as Sidlesham played out a 1-1 draw (aet) with Stansfeld - a side we know well from SCEFL Division One. A replay back at Foxbury Avenue will decide the tie on Tuesday evening.

What is clear is that Kennington will again be away from home, with the tie scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 3pm k.o.

TON: Barnes, Stow, Greenfield (c), Phillips, Brown, Clarke, Calvert, Scorer, Lockyer, Conlon, Owen. Subs: Tomsett (for Greenfield '71), Horton (for Conlon 81'), Latham (for Scorer '81). Unused: Cook (gk), Hughes, Fisher, Philpott.

Kennington are on the road once more this coming Saturday (Sept 7), with a trip to Bromley to face Holmesdale (3pm k.o). Match preview to follow.
