Kennington moved up to second in the SCEFL Division One table following a 5-1 victory at Rochester United on Saturday.

Two-a-piece from returning play maker, Tom Scorer and captain, Gary Clarke, was supplemented by Craig Calvert to ease Ton to the three points - which they had all but wrapped up by half-time courtesy of some ruthless finishing.

Dan Scorer made two changes from the side which started against Lewisham Borough a fortnight ago - Scorer coming in for Dale Horton, with Craig Calvert replacing Charlie Owen, who featured on the subs bench alongside Jack Negus, Harry Goddard, Joe Fisher and Rob Greenfield.

Ton - playing in their change all-white strip - made the best possible start, when Gary CLARKE stabbed home after Gary Lockyer's initial shot was blocked from Craig Calvert's cleverly worked corner routine.

Tom SCORER would soon double Kennington's advantage, running on to Adam Phillips' lofted through pass to neatly lob over on-rushing goalkeeper, Ben Nourse from the left hand edge of the box. Moments earlier Scorer had forced Nourse into a diving save, turning the ball around the post from a rasping drive.

Two became three on 28 minutes - Craig CALVERT drilling his shot from the edge of the box into the far corner, off the inside of the post to give Nourse little chance and put Ton firming in the ascendancy.

The home crowd were stunned further barely two minutes later as Ton pressed again to add a fourth - SCORER cutting in from the left hand side to smash home into the adjacent corner.

Sam Brown almost made it five just before the interval, connecting well with a shot central to goal which Nourse parried before catching at the second attempt.

Gary CLARKE capped another energetic performance in the heart of the Ton midfield by notching his second of the afternoon on 56 minutes with a classy chipped finish from a tight angle, assisted by Gary Lockyer's neat back-heeled pass.

While Lockyer was unable to add to his early season tally of three from the opening two, the front man worked tirelessly throughout in affording Rochester little time to play out from the back.

Dan Scorer introduced the trio of Charlie Owen, Joe Fisher and Jack Negus by the midway point of the second half to rest the influential Scorer, alongside Brown and Sam Conlon - and manage the remainder, with the energy-sapping sun beating down on Rede Court.

Kennington were indebted to goalkeeper Tom Barnes in the latter stages of the match - the shot-stopper called into action twice to ensure Rochester didn't find a way back in - firstly denying a Charlie Plummer header at the back post with a diving stop, before beating away a shot from point blank.

David Abe also found himself in on goal for the hosts, however the advancing Barnes forced the Rochester striker wide, and his resulting effort was comfortably cleared.

Overall, another pleasing performance, and a first victory on the road this season.

The result lifts Ton to second in the SCEFL Division One table by virtue of their impressive strike rate - 12 goals from three League outings thus far.
