Kennington embark on their historic FA Vase journey on Saturday, visiting former competition runners-up, Epsom & Ewell.

The tie takes place at Chipstead FC, High Road, Coulsdon, Surrey, CR5 3SF, with a 3pm k.o.

EPSOM & EWELL - PREVIEW

Epsom & Ewell currently ply their trade in the Combined Counties Division One - Step 6, like ourselves, and currently sit sixth in the table after five games with two wins, a draw and two defeats to their name.

Epsom will know what a Vase run means to both the club and the local community, going all the way in the first ever Vase final at the 'old' Wembley Stadium in 1975, where they were defeated 2-1 by Hoddesdon Town.

Both sides have been guilty of letting leads slip - Epsom having led in all five of their League games so far, but coming out on top just twice - while Ton face similar challenge as Greenways fought back late on in the searing heat at Homelands on Bank Holiday Monday.

Neither side are yet to keep a clean sheet so far this season, with Epsom's last shut-out on December 29 last year - a one-nil home success against Eversley & California, in going on to finish eighth in the Combined Counties Division One table.

Down at the other end, Epsom are the second highest scorers in their League, amassing 14 from their five fixtures so far - goals coming from nine different players.

Goals of some sort will be a guarantee with the fixture being played to a finish on the day, with extra-time and penalties should it be required.

The winners of the tie will then travel to either Sidlesham (Southern Combination Division One) or Stansfeld - from our very own SCEFL Divison One - in the second round qualifying, on Saturday, September 14.

Kent has had a very successful recent past in the competition, with Cray Valley PM runners-up in the Wembley final last season, beating Canterbury City en route, in the last four.
