Our FA Vase adventure continues on Saturday (Sept 14), as we make the long trip to West Sussex to face Sidlesham in the second round qualifying.

Like ourselves, Sidlesham also ply their trade at Step 6, in the Southern Combination Division One, taking a point off early-season pace setters, Littlehampton Town on Saturday, with a 1-1 home draw, prior to a 3-0 defeat on Tuesday evening at Wick.

In the first qualifying round, Sids saw off Stansfeld - of our own SCEFL Division One - in a replay, winning 3-1 away at Foxbury Avenue, after the sides drew one all after extra time in the first fixture.

Sidlesham's best season in the Vase was in 2003/04 - the first year they entered the competition - in making the second round proper as a Step 5 club. Their run included an impressive 4-2 away win at a certain Maidstone United - then a Kent County side - in the first round, in front of a crowd of 400.

The tie takes place at The Recreation Ground, Selsey Road, Sidlesham, West Sussex, PO20 7RD, and will be settled on the day, with extra time and penalties should the scores remain level.

Admission is £5 for adults, £2 concessions and free for under 16’s.

A place in the first round proper is up for grabs for the winners, alongside £725 in prize money.

*A minutes silence will take place prior to kick-off in memory of Kennington Juniors player, Owen Kinghorn, who tragically died aged 15, last week.
